That never happened to me in 1974/75, Trigger, and that was a good season for us with lots of wins.

I have actually gone back to Friday evening Spit to see if a4e was having a go, ready to warn him politely but all I can see is a comment on those who are critical of the RNLI (spelt right TF!). I imagine that would be a shared belief well beyond him. I didn't think it applied to you in general or particular. I hope that is true.

The club is worth what someone would pay for it. That would depend on the circumstances under which it was being sold. If we weren't there would there be a rugby club to take the ground over?

A4E - it's mostly public parking in Weir Road, so people aren't going to pay the fiver around there. And from memory, there aren't that many actual car parks to use - only the concourses of the business, some of which will still be open during games

Maybe if the Weir Road industrial estate was smartened up (it currently seems to be a magnet for flytippers and abandoned vehicles…), quite a bit of parking could be made available down there for a fiver a time….

A few can make money out of buying a club. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have recently sold 10% of Wrexham for more than they bought the entire club for. Surely we would be a more attractive prospect - we are in the capital, great name recognition as the whole world has heard of our suburb, we have an interesting history, the ground could be expanded to be bigger than Bournemouth and Brentford, and League 1 (or 2) is a better starting point than non league. Perhaps they could also buy up the car showrooms to provide some parking.

Definitely a saturation of football. It's now on every day of the week. 72 games in the group stages of the World Cup quickly followed by 48 x 3 games in the group stages of the UEFA club competitions. That's a total of 216 matches before you even reach the the excitement of the knockout stages.

Agree with the oversaturation argument. Watching L2/L1 football is fine for me on the away games but I did use to enjoy* my Sunday mornings I’d make some nice sourdough toast the cat would get on my lap in front of the fire and I’d watch Match Of The Day having tried to avoid the scores. This season the Premier League just doesn’t feel that interesting and any match that does threaten to get exciting just sees VAR step in and ruin it. When all the money in football can only deliver one valid title contender out of the so called big six then it’s a sorry state.

Sky pay the minimum they can get away with for the EFL. Their money goes up because other broadcasters/streamers are competing. Is that guaranteed to continue? Amazon seem to be pulling back.

So the people who bought, for example, Gillingham and Wycombe are expecting to spend millions every year with very little to show for it and in many cases antagonism from fans. Is there really that much kudos in owning a lower league football club? Can someone explain what pleasure such US owners get?

Also there will be a massive sterile area around the 200 Franchise fans

Thursday won’t be full either - it’s a school night, plus there will be those who won’t ever attend vs MK…

Also, I think that player wages aren't going to go down too much in the future, TV rights will remain relatively similar to what they are now, but you'll see more consortia coming into clubs rather than individual owners

Reduced crowds are happening IMO because 1) Wigan and Donny aren't as enticing for the more casual supporter as they once were. 2) Ticket prices are too high for L1. 3) People don't have much disposable income these days, with cost of living, utilities etc. They're picking and choosing, if they are coming. 3) Football isn't great. 4) Novelty of PL generally is wearing off, though not a bad thing. 5) A saturation of football generally. Probably some others, although minor things like bag searches don't really put all bar the (very) odd individual off.

Braz - I wonder whether super-rich super-fan JG was at either of those games….

No-one buys an EFL club thinking they can invest none of their own money and then rise up the leagues and then sell to a bigger idiot for a nice profit in a few years.

Are we really relying on tourists flying in for games like home to Doncaster to boost the attendances?!
