Reading the Historical Don sticky reminded me of a chance discovery I made, oh, must be around the start of AFCW. I was round my bro-in-law's place (now ex bro-in-law) while his old mum was visiting. We got talking about WFC and their rise and fall. She told me she had a commemorative coin struck to honour the 3 successive Southern Lge titles. I asked to see it. I due course I did and was able to take snaps [Link] and [Link] I offered to buy the coin, but she declined. She died some years ago now and, due to circumstances, I was unable to trace what happened to it. The pics are all I have.

Just seen who is going to replace Howe at Newcastle. Matthias Jaissle - currently (or now previously) managing a club in the Saudi league.

Honestly even with all the money you could wish for Newcastle still somehow manage to be a joke club.

Reading back, Octopus doesn’t make its money from being an energy supplier, it is their Tech branch where they make the majority of their substantial profits. I guess having customers with a positive balance allows Octopus to use that money to make more money.

The Newcastle job is something of a poisoned chalice. Their owners are rich beyond wildest dreams but aren't allowed to spend under PSR and are seemingly becoming disinterested in the whole idea. Meanwhile the expectations of the fanbase are high.

I'm not sure a "top" manager would go there expecting to succeed - they might go there expecting a decent pay off though.

If there is only 1 or 2 the water meter makes sense as reduced bill with SES, unfortunately it's the Thames water waste that went up a lot on bills.

To reach net zero, your DD need to increase on gas/leccy
At least with gas and electricity energy, customers can switch, fix, etc - water, on the other hand, is a total stitch up, no competition or alternatives (other than to be metered or not, which in itself is another con - “get a meter”, they said, “you’ll save money”, they said - and then the bill doubled…)… Just imagine if they’d used all those billions upon billions in profits for building new reservoirs and fixing all the leaks/replacing Victorian infrastructure over the past 40 years rather than lining the pockets of the shareholders, maybe there wouldn’t be shortages, and bills might be lower…

Don't you only (generally) get the better, fixed-rate/capped, deals if you sign up by DD?

Don’t forget there’s a solar eclipse coming up on the evening of 12th August. Between 90% to 96% of The Sun will be obscured. Starts around 6pm with the peak being just after 7pm.

Morning all. It’s new signing Thursday once again.
Why not simply put the equivalent of the monthly DD paid for energy into a savings account and then pay the bill once a quarter by a simple transfer.

I think it’s brilliant that “nerds” are having either their moment in the sun or maybe even the dawn of the new era. Nerd isn’t a derogatory term or probably even a used term anymore. I work with so many talented and energetic developers and engineers these days they are the future.

Wombles, on the pull. Wombles wombles on the pull.
Years back I was a computer programmer for the LEB. I popped into the Streatham showroom and asked to pay my bill. The young lady told me I couldn't as I didn't have my bill with me. So I used my charms and asked her to type a few things into her terminal. Lo and behold my account appeared. She wad amazed and asked how I knew that. My reply was "I coded the system"

Albeit as part of a team
Yeah that was the other bit that stood out. Without really thinking about it I'd have said that recruitment was pretty good but when you look at the cold hard data it could* have been better - probably still better than our all previous L1 season summer recruitment maybe?

*again, depending on budget, CC and team may have worked miracles to get even the signings that didn't add much value to the squad
Not only do they accrue decent interest, but they would be bias in favour of largish credit balances to avoid defaults with write-offs and possibly legal action

Oo er missus!
Thanks Trigger. I think our finances mean that we have less margin for error than other clubs. We clearly made errors last season (recruitment wasn't great for one), but probably fewer than some better resourced clubs that struggled (e.g. Rotherham, Blackpool, Orient).
