Karen - you might be right - but I suspect not. £12 added to the average match day ticket would take the average up from £14.50 to £26.50 + vat i.e. £31.80 - sot lets round up to £32. I went to see The Nutcracker in Havana at the Storyhouse Theatre in Chester this afternoon. Tickets were £62 and it was heaving. The Storyhouse is run by a Charity but they don't seemingly see the need to sell tickets at a below market price. But I accept that neither of us have the data to make an informed decision - which is why I suggest that the Club undertake the relatively simple research. However I suspect that even if that research indicated that we could sell 8000+ tickets to every home game at a significant average increase - you would still be against - on the grounds that you want someone else to pay.

What does that even mean…?
JG - £12 extra per seat works out at £276 per season which is as a guess 60% increase ?

We should be increasing our playing budget - not decreasing it, To do so I would happily increase the amount I pay for my ticket. Whether we could close the £2.8m deficit - I've no idea - but doing some market research on pricing should be relatively simple. On a different subject has anyone managed to navigate the Port Vale website to buy a ticket for Tuesday's game? I can only see tickets for home fans.

Silk - or let the market dictate and sell the match day tickets at a price which maximises our gross margin.

OI - some market research would be a starting point. I took a straw poll a few weeks back of around a half a dozen people who sit around me as to whether it would make any difference to their attendance if they had to pay another £12 per match - all of them said that they would still come. One person said they would stop buying a season ticket for their daughter as she only comes 4-5 times a season when he has custody.

When Jackson ends his love affair with both Reeves and Smith we might just might create more chances for our forwards.

Mark - Yes I would have Ryan Reynolds & Co. But Wrexham has been an excellent investment for them, They will absolutely reap their just rewards if and when Wrexham get into the Premiership. Whilst they have invested heavily (well actually not a huge amount) they have sorted out their commercial revenue streams.

We scored a very decent goal yesterday so know we can do it. I agree that we need a big man up top who can ruffle a few feathers and get us up the pitch, that was a big issue yesterday. The ball just kept coming back at us. One of the big worries with yesterday was the lack of second balls we were winning. This is something Jackson prides our team on, we were struggling. Interesting that yesterday that when Hackford came on, we tried a few more through balls which nearly came off.

Just looking at Hearts. Currently top of the SLP and 51% owned by the fans. Last June Tony Bloom (Brighton owner) acquired a 29% non-voting stake in the club. Since then they have bought in 12 players, 11 of which were from outside the UK using data from Bloom's analytics firm. Could we gain better value transfers by looking further afield? Most of our transfers are players known to the fans with the likes of Seddon and Tilley returning to the club.

On the other hand Athletic Club Bilbao are fan owned and have played 95 consecutive season in the top flight of La Liga while only signing players from the Basque region.
Love sitting back on a Sunday and reading through the weekends ramblings on here, but the phrase “if my grandma had wheels……. “ Keeps cropping up in my mind. So many ifs and buts and a lack of information to base anything on..

Having said that, some good conversation…
Maybe - maybe not, it’s all speculation, but bear in mind that in every season we have been playing a squad that we can’t afford (ie making big losses) - if we cut budget to actually match our income I would be very surprised if we could stay in the league, but who knows (certainly not me)?. We will see either way soon enough

It is all surmise, nobody knows what will happen if we cut the budget right back to break even. The only sure thing is that a company making uncovered losses year on year eventually ends up in liquidation/administration. All our witterings on here neither change that reality or help or hinder the discussions that need to be had at decision making level.

The last time we were in L1 it was said if we got relegated we would fall out the league by some and, despite being absolutely terrible in our first season back in L2, we stayed in the league. We also found our way back to L1. We do need to sell to solidify but putting these spurious arguments does not help the cause.

Our crowds held up in L2 as well.
If we cut the budget and fall out of the league then our revenues would drop significantly, so we have to cut it further, so we probably couldn’t survive in NL either. I would like to see some sort of analysis as to where we would be able to be profitable and without such an analysis (which should have been done, but probably hasn’t) it is all gut feel, but my expectation is that we would have to sell the ground to cut our costs and find another one and then could probably stabilise around NL South or the Ryman (similar to the level where FCUM are stuck). If we decide to go that way then fair enough, but it’s not for me to go that way again, so personally I would be indifferent between that outcome or going out of business altogether.

Our aspirations must be to stay up - and I’m afraid that costs money. And that’s why people are saying that our existing model is not fit for purpose

MLD - we are a L2 club playing in L1 in the same way Ipswich were a Championship club playing in the Premiership for a season. Or Burnley.

OI - I think you are over-exaggerating a bit. I spoke about a £1 million cut which would still put us above most NL teams where the level is £1-1.5 million. What we have to look at is the value for money for each player. The more experienced ones will be on higher wages and are they earning that extra? We also will not attract any buyers if do not address the wage structure. I think our wages has increase by well over a million in the last two years - where is it going and is it well spent.

I understand that Silk but when we've cut costs to break even we'll have no Seddon or Browne and quite quickly no Nkeng (spelling?). We'll be looking at Dorking and Chelmsford players to recruit, big brute central striker or nippy winger.

OI - unless we stop losing money we will go bankrupt. It is not my preference to cut the budget but the only choice we have. Unless we either (a) sell the club, (b) have someone willing to fund the losses whilst allowing us to remain fan-owned or (c) get another revenue stream

It beggars belief people do not understand you have to cut costs if you are making losses and have no way of covering those losses. Are there any other costs that can be cut?
