MLD - we are not a L1 club so that is a misunderstanding. There is a drop in quality in L2 and with only 2 relegation places it is very hard to be relegated. Harrogate have stayed up for a number of seasons with a budget set at £1.5 million which is half ours.

Our goal yesterday came from Mkeng driving down the wing playing it back to Seddon who put in a beautiful cross. They seem to be forming a partnership and we need a complimentary one on the right.

442- for me. Two partnerships down the flanks, CBs and CMs engine room players and a striker with a big bastard. Nothing fancy. just effective football.
Silk - are you suggesting we reduce our budget so that we break even? That would be a hefty reduction and we'd have almost none of the current squad left as soon as their contracts ended. No reason the likes of Seddon, Ogundere and co. should give up wages so that we can go on about the wonders of fan ownership. We'd be fishing in National League South waters for players.

Silk - 100% agree with big horrible bloke up front and that our build up play is too slow. Where I would say we probably disagree is the quality of our team. For me there’s only been 2 players (or 3) who have shown they are good enough this year - the rest of the squad are not up to league 1 standard. It’s not about tactics or form, it’s quality. JJ has one hand tied behind his back. The only way we will get that quality is to recruit better players and that is directly linked to salaries

MLD - we are not talking about reaching the Prem League or the Championship but we can definitely compete in L2 and against a lot of L1 with this attitude. The problem with us from what I have seen is that we have no plan for keeping possession in the final third. We have played Browne and Stevens in the front two and neither are at their best in 50/50s. We need a big, ugly bastard to fight for them and be switched on for the second balls. A side that compete in L2 and fight to stay up in L1 our place. We are not going to be up the top every season but we had middling seasons in the top flight.

Pace and skill down the flanks, strength in the middle. Wingers on the pitch for their attacking contributions and not their defensive positioning. Be patient with the development of MKeng and Hackford.

Actually a bit envious of Bromley fc at the moment. They seem to be getting things right on and off the pitch

Silk - a couple of things. I do think it couldn’t be repeated nowadays but more importantly is that we were the exception to the rule. If you look at all the leagues (over here and in Europe) the bigger teams are at the top

How would you propose to test elasticity JG? We don't have two clubs so that we could raise prices in one and leave them unaltered in the other to see the effects. A lot of our revenue comes from season ticket sales so if you are altering the price of them the experiment lasts a season.

one, has standards you know! :o)
MLD - we competed for years in the top flight whilst having the weakest squad on paper. That is because we knew what we were, Now I saw a few weeks back we were talking about playing it out from the back and not playing a Bugiel type.

It is not just budget
Tomato Swig - because that's life. You can't expect a Mercedes for the same price as a Reliant Robin! If the club and the majority of fans have the ambition to see the Club progress then there is a price to pay for it. If you can't afford it - come to less matches or watch Vertu Cup, Women's or Youth matches which are all massively cheaper.

The Godfather of Capitalism had this to say about those with the broadest shoulders - "It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion"

This is seen in football where the wealthiest do contribute the most towards a club's finances. It is the business model of football. The ownership model is immaterial - if we have rich fans chipping in then so be it. In other clubs they do it for various reasons: mitigating tax revenues, they have always supported the club, they buy a club for £100 million and sell it for £200 million but it is sustained by Adam Smith's ideals.
And he’s back …

Rampton must have left a door open in the comms room
JG: going to matches is not fun. The football is awful, there’s not much hope of wins, not much hope of goals, not even shots on target. Relegation and losing the better players thereafter is definitely a big possibility. In fact losing the better players is a possibility even if we stay up. Im questioning the thought of going nowadays and I know others are. Putting the prices up significantly as you suggest is a complete non goer as I believe will harm attendances significantly. Competing on the pitch should be any teams primary objective. This, imo, can only be done by selling the club and getting in the investment we need to get better quality players. We all know competing in a professional sport is directly related to salaries

6MDM - why ignore me? Sorry - I hadn't realised that we can't talk about the clear need to generate more revenue. on this forum. If you think you can find someone with £100m+ who can afford to lose £2.8m each year - then put them forward. I won't be against.

Mark - what has been clear for years? Are you aware of any testing of ticket price elasticity? I'm not. If the market dictated that we could generate another £2m in ticket revenue by increasing prices - would you be against in principal or because you don't think that we would generate the additional revenue. If the latter - lets do the testing!!!

"fewer matches" - yes I know it is a lost cause but I blame people who don't care about our language
Trigger - couldn't agree more. Let the market dictate. Money is not bad and financial success and success on the pitch are directly correlated - unless we get lucky.

Mark - I'm certainly not holding the club back. I have made my views on ownership by a Community Trust clear on numerous occasions. My point is that whoever owns the Club will want to reach break even in the medium to long term. I suspect that can only be achieved by charging the market rate for tickets not by clinging to some ideological nonsense that others "with the broadest shoulders" should act as benefactors!!
