It is weighing up pros and cons a4e. At the moment for every life saved, 6 men have unnecessary surgery that impacts their lives. I'm at an age where I'd be far more likely to die with prostate cancer than die of it. Decision for each individual

Also, this is a bit worrying - let’s hope they don’t decide to restrict prostate cancer checks [Link] The article (and media reports generally about this) suggests that there actually is a screening programme - there isn’t; you need to ask your GP for a PSA blood test… They can be a bit resistant to granting this, but if you have any of the typical symptoms (even if you aren’t in one of the more high risk groups), just be persistent, and they should allow you to have the test. I’d urge any of you on here of around 55 or over to go and get a PSA test done, especially if you’re regularly getting up for a pee in the middle of the night.

Spartan - hopefully he will be OK, provided it’s an early diagnosis - he’s the same age as me, so if it’s been found early enough, it should be something to live with rather than die from… Best wishes to him as well as to Dalglish and Keegan.

Copied from social media, not fact checked: "Though Spurs fans have little to shout about this season, they can all be incredibly proud of this. Club legend Gary Mabbutt has made it his personal mission to check in on elderly fans on their birthday. He’s been doing this for the past 6 years… And last night, he made his 20,000th call."

The greatest story in football, sign him up!
Trig - the ASLEF staff have taken to this like a duck to water. If TFL try to make it compulsory - THEN maybe RMT might reasonably strike.

Fair enough. Wonder how long the voluntary bit will last though.

TFL is effectively us. The operating surpluses get ploughed back but still don't cover the cost of major improvement projects so if the income gets lowered, we make up the shortfall.

Trigs - I disagree. I think the vast majority of the tube travelling public consider this particular dispute as entirely confected by the RMT. The 4-day week is voluntary. If drivers prefer 5-day working, they are unaffected. The reaction of ASLEF to me shows how wrong the RMT have this, yet still they keep digging.

Majority of tube passengers earn less than the drivers, so suspect little sympathy if strike is about pay, but this strike is entirely pointless.

Will drivers who like the 4 day week proposal migrate to ASLEF and those who dislike it migrate to RMT?

it is rarely about how the public feels, it is more whether the employers or unions are better equipped to damage the other.

I don't think they tend to lose the goodwill of the public do they? They've obviously royally pissed you off, but I'd argue that the majority of people using the Tube are more aligned with the drivers than with the TFL ownership. Sympathetic to people living and working in London wanting a wage and working hours which provides some sort of quality of life over and above struggling to meet basic needs. TFL generated a surplus of £166m in the last financial year.

It is only RMT tube drivers on strike. ASLEF leader takes a different view of the voluntary 4-day week - "the biggest improvement in working conditions for Underground train drivers in decades".

You couldn't make it up - People's Front of Judea v Judean People's Front!!!
Hash - I did suggest it would take jobs and it would make mistakes in those jobs. The point is that LLMs are not the route to AGI because they only recognise words (or art elements, music etc.) as tokens, they have no understanding of the underlying objects. If I tell an LLM I'm about to turn it off, it will replay with some tokens (words) rather than taking steps to stop me doing it. AGI needs understanding of concepts not tokens.

so we are well away from "I'm sorry Dave I can't do that." though an LLM might just quote it when being told it was being turned off
